What the Work Rate test looks like

Work Rate is one of the six tests in the Defence Aptitude Assessment (RAF). You see a small table of codes – letters, numbers and symbols – and a code made of a few of them. Your job is to find the option that uses the same set of entries, as quickly as you can. Work Rate measures how fast and accurately you complete routine tasks, so the time per question is only a few seconds.

Our practice timing is 20 questions in 4 minutes. The services do not publish the exact numbers for the real test, so treat the timing as practice.

Before the real test

The Royal Navy sends your DAA link to your candidate portal; it stays valid for 14 days, and once you start you finish in one sitting. You can practise on a phone, but the real assessment needs a screen of at least 10.2 inches (Royal Navy). Do this test on a laptop or tablet at least once so the layout feels familiar.
